Tree Trimmed - Red #8

Part of our tree management program includes the trimming of trees during the winter months.
I know several of you will be pleased to see that we have raised the canopy on the tree located in the left rough on Red #8 just short of the first, left fairway bunkers.

Snow and Ice Removal

The series of photos below shows the process that the staff used to remove the snow cover and break up the ice layer that had formed on the greens. Left unchecked for an extended period of time, an ice layer can deprive the turf oxygen which can result in death of the turf.

The photo above shows the staff moving snow off the surface of the green so attempts can be made to expose and shatter the layer of ice beneath the snow.

The above photo shows a 1" layer of ice on the greens that was limiting oxygen to the turf which could ultimately result in winterkill if the ice had been left on the green for over 45 days.

The photo above shows the use of an aerifyer to break the layer of ice on the green's surface

that allowed necessary oxygen availability to the turfgrass plant.

The photo above shows the results of the staff breaking up the ice layer clearing the green.

Snow Cover

Once again the golf course is covered by almost 12 inches of snow. It looks as though we will have plenty of moisture to deal with when the course opens this spring. Let's hope for a warm and sunny conditions this spring.
